[for greg]

It was fully dark before the group had gotten back to the Compound. The lights glowed and it was a welcome sight. Jack let them all go, let them return to wherever it was they called home.He was still keyed up. He hadn't found House, hadn't found any of the kids. He truly hoped that some other party had found them.

Striding into the Compound, he went to the IPD office to check the list of the missing, check who had been found. It looked like House had come in with Duck and Geoffrey, along with Sunny, Wednesday, and Peter Pan. He breathed a sigh of relief and walked back out into the hallway. He wished the tension would let go, but he knew it wasn't going to. Not until he saw Greg for himself.

Next stop...clinic.

House was finally alone, having just finished patching up a couple of scrapes and bruises on the last kid and sent them on their way with the rescuers. He, on the other hand, still felt like shit. Using a fallen limb as a makeshift cane for the trek back hadn't exactly been ideal, even if they hadn't run into any more dinosaurs. And his hands and the bottoms of his feet were scraped all to hell from climbing that fucking tree, not to mention that he was just sore all over.

Oh yeah, and he really didn't want to have kids any time soon.

What he really needed was a shower, but at this point it kind of hurt to move.

He pushed through the doors expecting the carnage he saw. His heart nearly stopped at the sight of Greg and there was nothing that could have held him back. He swaggered in past everyone, rifle hanging from the strap on his shoulder. He caught Greg's face in both hands and kissed him. Hard.

House hadn't been paying attention so he hardly saw Jack coming, and the only reaction he managed to have to the rather surprising kiss was, "Ow."

His hands let go so fast there was a breeze as they flew back.

"Where are you hurt?" he barked, still in a commanding mode. He'd been barking orders all day, and it wasn't that simple to shake off.

House flinched. "Well, my ears, now...."

The muscles of his jaw jerked as he grit his teeth.

"That's not what I meant, and you know it."

House sighed. "I'm fine," he assured him. "Well. Not fine. I just spent all day in a fucking tree with a gaggle of annoying children and my whole body is aching, but there's no permanent damage."

Jack reached up agains and smoothed a crease along the side of Greg's mouth. "I've been out there all day. Can't believe I didn't find you." He offered a smile, barely. "Found other people, though."

House snorted. "Well I assume the only reason I got found was because I happened to be with children. If it'd just been me up there in that tree I'm sure you would have gotten there first."

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'd have found you," he replied, looking into Greg's eyes. "I wouldn't have stopped until I did. I was going to go out again tonight..." he admitted as more of the soldier slipped away. He hadn't let himself worry, and now...there was nothing to worry about.

"I know," said House, putting a hand on Jack's shoulder. "There was never a doubt in my mind. I'm not sure if that's a particularly good mindset to have, not being scared when I wake up barefoot and half dressed in the middle of dino country, but there you have it."

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Jack nodded slowly and leaned in again, kissing him more gently this time. "There you have it," he repeated.

"Were you worried?" House asked with a lifted eyebrow.

"Me? Not a chance," he lied.

"I almost wish I could have seen you in soldier mode," House murmured.

Jack arched his brow and looked at him like he'd lost his mind. "What? Barking orders, shooting dinos, and telling people when to run? Not that exciting," he chuckled. "Only do it when I have to, any more."

"You were the one who said you liked finally seeing me in my element," House pointed out.

"There is that," he replied. "Well, if you need to see it so bad, I'm going back out in te morning. There's still some names on the list."
