Jack and Chase were on the beach, talking for the first time in a while.

"I'm not avoiding you, Rob," he said, unable to keep from touching him. "Say what you want to say."

Chase just studied Jack and figured that after everything, honesty was probably the best way to go about all of this. And yeah, maybe House was wearing off. "What you said the other day to me. I've been thinking a lot about it. I want to know if you meant it."

He held up his hand and looked blankly at Rob. "I said a lot of things, Rob. Narrow it down for me."

Maybe he should stop getting stoned...House might have a point.

Chase just smiled and pressed his lips together, peering down, wandering closer. "The L word part," he clarified. "I think I owe you something if you did."

"Of course I meant it," Jack replied, looking at him curiously. "I mean, I know it's not exactly...normal? Conventional? But yeah. I do."

Chase just eased closer, cupping Jack's cheek and leaning in to kiss him slowly, a token of grateful thanks as he closed his eyes and just eased back after a moment, chewing on his lower lip.

He kissed him back, savoring it until they broke and he smiled. Running his fingers through Rob's hair, he still looked bemused. "What was that for? ...Not like I'm complaining."

"You said you loved me," Chase said, like it was completely obvious. "You don't just not do anything when someone says that. You thank them."

"I think I like your thank you better than House's," he smirked, rubbing his jaw.

Chase frowned, giving him a confused look. "Why?" he asked curiously, settling himself in the sand and sitting, fidgeting with his shirt. "What'd House do?"

He turned his head so Rob could get a better look at the fading bruise. "After Logan, before Wilson," he snorted. "Although those two I did hit back."

Chase winced and scoffed a little, muttering a quick curse under his breath. "Figures," he exhaled. "Sounds like House, too." He reached over to touch the bruise, just lightly, to check how much pigment was in the skin. "It'll heal well."

"Yeah, I'm not worried about it," he shrugged. "Still, your kiss is nicer."

"I really hope so," he swore, mock-seriously and tugged Jack closer by the waistband of his pants, leaning in to kiss him again, other hand pushing through Jack's hair, not really minding anything but the task of kissing Jack.

He moaned softly and held Rob closer, one arm around his shoulders and the other pushing deeper into his hair. "Jesus, Rob," he gasped, nearly falling into the sand.

Chase just eased back, gasping a little for air as he licked his lips, chewing on them. "Uh...what was I saying?" he asked, eyes a bit glazed over.

It took him a moment to get his thoughts together. "Uh...thank you. I think."

Chase swallowed, still focusing himself and he nodded. "Right, sure," he agreed, accent a bit thicker. "No problem. I uh..." He nodded again.

Jack let his arm fall from shoulders to waist, but left his fingers in his hair. "How do we always wind up kissing...when we aren't acting like kids?" he asked softly.

Chase just closed his eyes at the touch in his hair. He didn't let just anyone touch it and it always felt so good when people did. "Because you're irresistible?" Chase suggested.

"Just like you," he smiled. "The Doctor and House are so lucky we don't sleep together...they'd never see us."

Chase snorted at that, opening his eyes to look at Jack, amazed yet by the colour there. "Yeah? We'd tie up each other in bed all the time? You'd break me," he said honestly.

"Maybe," he smiled, then leaned in to whisper, "But you'd love it."

Chase closed his eyes again momentarily with the whisper. "Of course I would," he agreed, a shiver coursing down his back. "I'd love every second."

"Mmm, do you have any idea how much I want to pull you off into the trees and make you scream my name?" he asked, his voice low and thick. "Too bad I can't anymore."

Chase gave Jack an almost sad smile, just looking at his lips. "Not like you did before," he reminded him quietly. "I always figured I wasn't what you wanted anyway."

He raised an eyebrow and shook his head slowly. "I just thought I was doing the right thing."

"Right thing, wrong thing," Chase shrugged, shaking his head. "Honestly, at some point, those two get really, really blurred."

"I know. I think this whole thing is more complicated I ever thought it could be."

Chase gave Jack a surprised look, pushing his feet through the sand as he laid back, getting comfortable. "Life isn't ever not complicated," he stressed.

"It used to be," Jack replied, settling beside him and laying his head on his chest. "And then I met the Doctor."

Chase shifted a little to accommodate Jack and idly pushed his fingers through his hair. "That's what I hear. Your life is normal and bam, the Doctor hits. Or in my case, you step out of an elevator and you're on an island."
