For Logan

He'd promised and he'd followed through. Jack had spent some time making a necklace for Logan. He didn't just slam it together, he had carefully chosen each shell, placed them just so, and made sure that the length was right. It couldn't be too tight, but he wanted it to be short. He wanted Logan to know what it meant when he wore it. Still, it needed to look like a simple piece of jewelry and nothing more.

It was finally finished and he laid it in a box and tied a ribbon around it before setting it on the table. Just a present. Just something only the two of them would understand.

Logan had changed, but his hair was still wet from the waves as he wandered into the hut and dumped his surfing gear in the corner.

Grinning, he swaggered over to Jack and kissed him playfully on the lips, pausing to squeeze the other man's ass before heading over to the fridge and grabbing some juice he'd left there the day before.

"You should have come with me today," he said. "The waves were perfect. Gotta enjoy them before the island decides it's time to turn this place into a winter wonderland again."

"I'd say I'm sorry I missed it, but I was doing something," he replied, swatting Logan's ass as he walked by.

"There's something on the table for you. I got it finished while you were out."

Logan quirked a curious brow, finishing his drink and heading over to the table to see what Jack had made.

Grinning, he eagerly untied the bow and opened up the box. He smiled at what he found inside, lifting it out and running his fingers over the shells. "Is this the collar? It's beautiful. I mean, I was expecting something a bit more- You know, like what we had in the dream at Neptune. This is way less obvious though," he laughed, holding it carefully and meeting Jack's eyes with his own.

"Though it will be hard to add a leash to it..." he quipped playfully.

"I can make something else to play with. This..."

He reached out and took it from Logan, undoing the clasp and moving around behind the younger man to fasten it on.

"...This is for you to wear all the time."

Logan tilted his head so Jack could fasten it, the cool shells heavy against his skin. As if somehow the hidden symbolism had added a little extra weight to them.

"Okay," he agreed, wetting his lips and turning to face Jack once the necklace was in place. "For you. Just for you."

Jack traced the line that crossed Logan's throat with his fingertips and smiled softly.

"It looks good on you," he noted. "Better than a wedding ring, I think. This is just for us. You know what it means, right? You're mine. You're always mine. I'll take care of you...even though you don't need me to."

His fingers moved away from the necklace so he could finger the cord that hung around his own neck. The one weighed down with the bullet.

Logan caught the bullet that hung around the other man's neck, smiling a little and then letting it go. "Don't need a necklace to be yours. It's a nice reminder though."

"Yeah...it's not like I'll ever let you forget it, though," he said, leaning in to give the other man a kiss. "I want to do something, too...I just don't know what. It should be something you pick. Like I picked that for you, you should pick something for me."

Logan wet his lips, unsure of what to say. "I- I dunno what to pick. I mean, do you want a collar? I don't see you in one. I mean I have, and it's hot, but..."

He was babbling and he knew it. Pausing, he did his best to gather his thoughts before trying again.

"It has to be something that belongs on you. It has to be-"

An idea hit him, and the look on his face changed dramatically. "It has to be something that matters. ...Like that tattoo. The one you picked in the dream."

The familiar tension flipped in his gut and he felt himself pale a little. But it was just the idea of it. It was just the baggage of his past. He'd done it once already- sort of.

"A tattoo," he said quietly, but not hesitantly. His hand moved lower and brushed over the spot where it had been for the duration of the dream.

"A tattoo of something that matters," he continued. "I...could do that."

"You don't have to," Logan said quickly. "I just- I dunno, I liked it. I can't think of anything else. I won't be upset if you say no.

His own fingers reached to touch his own instinctively, and he bit his lip before glancing away.

"I will," he decided without any hesitation. An image had flashed in his mind as soon as he'd said 'something that matters' and it seemed to cement the whole deal.

"I'll talk to Alcuin. Today, if you want."

"Really?" Logan asked, obviously surprised.

His fingers found the hem of the other man's shirt, and he pulled it up so he could touch the tender skin that hid beneath. "Wow. That's- That's a really big step."

"Not really. I did it in Neptune. I can do it here," he said, then quirked a little smile. "And I think I'm past ready to get over my past. I've committed to you. I have a home, pets,friends. I live a shockingly crime free life. I think that a tattoo isn't half as huge as those things."

"You spell it out like that, and our lives sound so dull," Logan laughed. "Think we should start a Bonnie and Clyde thing, paint the town red to spice things up?"

"Maybe after I get inked up I'll feel like going on a spree," he chuckled. "Do you want to come with me, or get cleaned up from the beach and meet me later, when it's done?"

"Find me when it's done. Surprise me. It'll be better that way," Logan decided.

Jack gave him a long, slow kiss before turning on his heel to go and find Alcuin. It wasn't hard to hunt the younger man up and after explaining what he wanted and sitting through the work- which hurt, but not nearly as much as he thought it would- Jack made his way home with a bandage on his hipbone and his jeans slung low.

Logan had taken over Jack's hammock, and he was sprawled out and half asleep by the time the other man returned home.

He only stirred when he heard Jack get close, and he opened one eye before smiling lazily and sitting up. "Holy shit, you really did it," he said softly, reaching out to touch the bandage.

"Can I see it?" he asked, looking up at the other man before getting to his feet.

"Yeah, you can see it," he said, walking past Logan and into the hut. as soon as he was past the door, he undid the button of his fly and peeled his jeans back, slowly taking off the bandage. What lay beneath it was the outline of a surfboard with four parallel lines across one end that looked suspiciously like the bars on the epaulets of his coat.

Reaching out, Logan ghosted his finger over the outline of the board, not quite touching, but obviously itching to.

"Wow," he said softly. "I still can't believe you did it. It's... It's really cool."

Leaning in, he kissed Jack softly and smiled. "I love it."

"You like it? You better. It's there forever- which I'm still not completely okay with. Too much past. But I like it. And it'...it means something," he babbled, pulling his stomach in and looking down at Logan's hand.

"It's itchy. I thought it'd hurt, I didn't think it'd be so itchy."

"It doesn't itch for long," Logan promised. "It means a lot though, that you'd do this. ...Guess we better make sure this marriage works though, now that we're both inked."

Catching Jack's hand with his own, he laced their fingers together and smiled. "You're amazing, you know that?"

"We'll make it work," he replied simply. He knew for a fact that he wasn't going anywhere, so unless Logan left him or the island tore them apart, the marriage was solid.

"I don't know why you think I'm so amazing, though. I'm just a guy, trying to do what's right...and sometimes succeeding."

"Trust me, that's pretty amazing, alright?" Logan said softly, smiling and then letting go of Jack's hand. "God, I'm getting sappy. I need to shut up."
