Jack had made his way back, gasping and falling, wishing he could scream every time he moved his arm. With Faramir gone, he'd taken the opportunity to get out of the restraints. He'd tried a few times, but by the time the pain in his shoulders seemed worth a little more, he strained and pulled until he felt his shoulder pull out of the socket. It hurt, fuck, it hurt...but it was just one more pain to go with the rest of the abuse. He'd undone the bindings around his ankles, then pulled out his gag and gotten his hands free.

He stumbled through the darkness, his right arm against the wall. Following the wall will get you out. He was so far beyond delirious that Rose may as well have been walking right behind him. He stumbled a few times, no sound escaping as he hit his knees and tore the scabs open again and again. By the time he reached the entrance and saw the jungle, he oriented himself.

Then he ran.

Rose followed along, need a doctor, Jack. Get to the clinic. I'll keep you alive, but you need help. Don't panic. He ran with her words driving him on, but by the time he reached the compound he was exhausted. He couldn't breathe, his arm throbbed in a dull mockery of his heartbeat, and his knees gave out at the doorway to the rec room. At least he was close. He was here. Someone would come along to help.

Jaime had been doing his best to avoid both his sister and since she seemed to be on quite good terms with the sunshine, indoors seemed to be the safest spot. He was very glad of that decision when he spotted Jack looking absolutely wretched. In fact, the other man looked like he had been savagely attacked or used or both.

There would be time to ask who had done this later and he let that keep his hand from drifting to the hilt of his sword. Instead, he crouched down and gently set about trying to help Jack to his feet. The island was lacking in maesters but there were doctors.

"Jack?" he asked quietly, silently hoping the other man would remain conscious until they could get to the clinic.

Jack's eyes fluttered open and he saw the blond hair and the blue eyes and smiled weakly. Rose...he knew Rose would help him. He reached out with his right hand to cup her face as he blinked a few times and mouthed the words "I love you."

It wasn't until he sat up with some difficulty and looked again that he saw it was Jaime.

"help," he mouthed, no voice or breath behind it.

Jaime blinked, wisely deciding not to read much into the first three words that never escaped Jack's lips. He tried not to recall how Benjen had said those words less than a day or two ago. Considering how strange everyone was acting, the Ranger probably would deny it later.

"I know and I'll help," he said soothingly as he slowly half-lifted and helf-dragged Jack to his feet. He supposed he could manage even if Jack did pass out. "I'll get you to the clinic."

Jack nodded and wrapped his arm over Jaime's shoulders, leaning on him heavily. His right arm hung limp at his side and his jaw was already discolored where Stu had hit him. He just really wanted to get to the clinic and hide from everyone.

Jaime remembered being in a similar position during his stay at Harrenhal. Although the Goat and his sellswords had hardly done anything to make him feel better. He still owed Brienne for helping him, misguided as her affection for him had always been.

"You'll mend," he said softly as they made their way to the clinic at a pace that a snail could have easily matched. "I can fetch the Doctor for you or stay with you if you like. Of course once we get there, I expect you're going to fall asleep and not give a damn which is just as well."

He needed to stop talking but he thought it best to make sure Jack knew it would be all right. Well, as all right as the situation could possibly be. The Kingslayer could not recall entering this part of the compound for any reason prior to this moment and sincerely hoped there were no leeches in the clinic.

His voice kept Jack focused, and he shuffled along trying not to be a complete burden. The blood pounded in his ears and he breathed hard with the strain of just walking.

More than anything, he wished he could speak. Could tell Jaime thank you. Could tell him...he was all right.

Jaime was not entirely sure what else to say, really. He had never been very good at one-sided conversations although he had spent a great deal of time sparring with Ilyn Payne, an executioner whose tongue had been removed by Aerys for its relentless praise of Tywin Lannister. Hm.

"If it becomes too hard for you to walk, just indicate it with some sort of hand gesture or meaningful look," he advised with a somewhat strained smile.

Jack nodded and looked down the hallway. Almost there. Safe with Jaime. He swallowed hard and winced as his eyes began to water. He just hoped that Rob would be there. Rob would know what to do.
