Three little words...how hard was this? He'd said them before. He'd said them a lot, actually. When it came right down to it, it's really how he lived his whole life.

To say them meant something important. It meant a connection. It meant that he wasn't just thinking about himself. Jack climbed onto the bed and sat at the foot of it, looking at Greg with his chin ducked, head turned so the gore of the healing bruise wasn't sickeningly obvious. He took a deep breath, braced himself, and then met Greg's eyes.

House hadn't even expected Jack, he'd been about ready to go to sleep, so he looked a little surprised at the sudden outburst.

Of course, he knew right away what it probably meant.

"Who?" he asked quietly.

Jack ran ris hand through his hair, tugging a little.

"Owen. I didn't fuck him. But...and Monday, when it was bad...four others" he said quietly, unable to keep looking up, "...I never fucked anyone but you."

He winced and nodded. "I jerked off three or four times, too. I told you Luna didn't do...didn't know..." he stammered.

There was a long, silent moment in which House's expression was unreadable. Then he just nodded, and said, "You don't owe me an explanation, Jack. You haven't promised me anything."

He'd never been more glad of that.

"...I'm sorry," he choked out. "Everyone who said I couldn't...who said it wasn't me...maybe they were right. I wanted to, so bad. I just...I...I fucked up."

House still wasn't showing much emotion. Because he really wasn't angry at all. Just... disappointed, maybe a little sad, maybe kicking himself a little for actually thinking...

"You don't have to change for me, Jack," he said quietly.

Jack pulled his knees up to his chest and hugged them tight, resting his chin on them carefully. "I want to be someone you're happy with, Greg."

House sighed. He really wasn't sure what to say.

"Just... don't lead me around on a string, okay? I'd rather just know. I don't like... hoping."

"I don't know, Jack. Do you even want to? I didn't think you were doing it for me, anyway. I thought it was something you wanted."

"It is," he said, looking up. "It's only you who I want inside me, and the only one I want to be in. God, I knew this would be hard, but...I want something special. I tried to tell you before I left. You kept talking about Princeton and when I was out there I thought...fuck, I don't know what I thought," he huffed in frustration.

"Okay," House said, and took a breath. "Okay, so we're talking semantics here. So to you there's a big difference between actual intercourse and... everything else. That's all that really matters, what it means to you. I'm... not a hypocrite, Jack. I won't ask anything of you."

"I promised I wouldn't lie to you, Greg. I...just didn't think. I wish you'd ask something. I'm good at orders, you know."

House didn't say anything for a long moment, then threw off the blanket and slid to the foot of the bed where Jack was sitting. "Okay," he said. "Don't fuck anyone but me."

It did make him feel like a bit of a hypocrite, but maybe it was really what Jack wanted. What he needed.

And maybe House needed to know, too. If he really could.

Jack looked up finally and a slow smile spread across his face. "I promise," he said, relaxing all over.

House sighed a little, but there was a smile tugging at his lips. "I think you owe me," he said, his voice low.
