Logan | Hurricane

The wind had begun to howl and Jack had been out in the thick of it. It was his job to make sure people were safe. Not at the cost of his own safety, though, and as the storm really hit, Jack was nearly home. He'd entered Bohemia and was nearly to his hut when part of the roof tore off the bath house. It flew through the air, unseen in the darkness and the rain. Jack didn't see it but he felt it as the wood hit his head and took him to the ground. He passed out for a minute and woke up soaked and muddy. The bit of roof had cut his head and his collar was soaked with watered down blood as he got to his feet and got to his door. He felt awful but he knew he needed to get inside.

That was about all he knew.

Logan was getting more and more nervous, and when he finally lost it and decided he was going to go find his husband, he was not pleased to find the man in question at their door.

"What the fuck have you been doing? Jesus, Jack, I've been worried about you. Get inside."

What had he been doing? Jack followed Logan inside and went to the kitchen table.

"I think I was...working," he said. That sounded like something he'd do. "Would I have been working? It's raining. Maybe not."

He rached up to touch his head, a little surprised at just how wet it felt.

"You were getting people out of the hurricane," Logan replied, eying the blood and frowning.

"Take your clothes off, I'm gonna clean you up. What happened to your head, baby? Tree branch?"

It was hard to tell how bad the wound was, but Jack seemed really out of it. Maybe he had a concussion or maybe he was just fucking with him. Either way, Logan was going to clean him up and take care of him.

"I dunno why you have to do that ITF crap. You should have been home. Safe. I've been freaking out waiting for you."

"My head hurts," he said softly. He started to peel off his wet clothes but paused so he could think about Logan's question. What had happened to his head? That was a good question.

"My head hurts," he said again. A tree branch...maybe. "I must have hit a tree. You think?"

"I dunno... You really don't know what happened?" he asked, looking worried as he wet a cloth. "Do you know your name? Do you know my name? ...Do you know where you are?"

He smiled and snorted a little. "You're Logan and I'm Jack and I'm home. I'm not hurt that bad," he said. He turned the warm smile on Logan for a minute, then looked down at his hand.

"There's blood," he said. "Are you bleeding? Let me see..."

"You're bleeding," Logan corrected, taking the cloth and starting to clean him up. "We need to get you to the clinic, something's wrong."

"The clinic? No, I'm okay," Jack said. "My head just hurts. I just need to lay down or something. I got all wet, I think."

He took a breath and thought hard for a minute.

"How did I get home? I was at the beach."

"You're not laying down, you probably have a concussion. Jack, you have to think, okay? What happened? What hit you?" he asked as he wiped the last of the blood away and looked at the deep gash.

"I'm going to go get a clean shirt to shred. We need to bandage this."

"A...tree? It had to have been, right?" he asked. It was hard to think and he sighed in frustration. He'd been coming home and then...what? He'd come inside. And his head hurt.

"I might have a concussion. I think I've had one before," he said. He was pretty sure it hadn't been like this, though. Not being able to remember seemed like it might be something that hadn't happened to him before.

"I think you need a doctor," Logan sighed. "Please, we can make it to the compound probably. Or I can go and bring someone back..."

The storm was raging outside, howling past the windows and pulling at the roof and shutters. The rain was driving down and crashed against the walls.

"I don't think we can get there. I think that's why I came home from work? Because the weather's bad. A hurricane. Yeah. I think we're stuck for the duration."

"I don't care, I'm going for help," Logan decided as he reached for his coat. "Do not sleep, you hear me?" he said, giving Jack a worried look.

Linus had been napping under the table, and he stretched and yawned before nudging Jack's knee with his nose.

"I'll be right back, do not come out after me."

The worst of the storm had passed and their hut was bad off. The roof of the lanai had torn away and it took half a wall with it. That caused another wall to drop in and the foundation to sag. It was a loss. Even though it was still standing and there was enough to shelter them from the retreating rain, it was going to have to be rebuilt from the ground up.

Not that Jack really cared at the moment.

"My tools are out there," he protested as he put on his shoes so he could go outside. Head wound or no, he knew he didn't want to lose his things. "If we're ever going to rebuild I'm going to need my tools..."

"I'll get them," Logan said, catching Jack's arm. "I don't want you walking around too much. I don't care if you're feeling better, you need to rest," he insisted, patting Jack's arm and heading outside to gather the tools and put them somewhere safe.

There was no way he was going to let Jack build anything for at least another day of two.

Jack paced around nervously. He didn't like how the hut leaned and creaked in the wind. It didn't feel as safe and snug as before.

It took a few minutes but then Jack was at the door,looking for Logan. He wasn't about to rest when he...he had...well, Logan might need help doing...

"What are you doing? Get inside," Logan demanded, looking annoyed as he hauled the tools inside and put them in the corner.

"You're not repairing anything right now. And besides... I dunno if I want to rebuild this place."

"I was...right. Nevermind," he replied, scooting back indoors. "What do you mean? You don't want to rebuild this place? But we've put so much work into it..."

"I know, and I love it, but... It was your place. I moved into your place, and I know we made it ours, but it was still your hut and- Well, I never really wanted to leave the Hamlet. I mean, I'm not saying I want my old hut back, but this place needs to be rebuilt anyway. What if we built it there?" Logan asked.

"You want to build a brand new hut from the ground up in the Hamlet?" Jack asked, his words slow as he really tried to think and hang on to the idea. "Is there room?"

"Sure, I mean, we can make room... I'm sure there's room," Logan insisted. "Look, I know it's a big move, but- I want to be closer to my family. I didn't think it would be a huge deal moving away, but... I never had a family like that before, you know? I feel like I moved away from something good."

"You want to leave Bohemia and live near Joe and Anne. No, I can see why...I don't have anything like that except the Doctor and that didn't go well. You really want to go home?"

"Only if you're okay with it," Logan said honestly. "I don't want you to say yes just because I want it or whatever. I want us both to be happy."

"I don't know, Logan," he said hesitantly. "Would Joe be pissed if I was so close? I'd hate to be underfoot or whatever. I never know when I'm going to make him mad."

"Joe likes you. He told me he likes you," Logan replied. "You know he does. Things have changed."
